What is Food License ?
Food license is a document issued by the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India to all kind of Food Business Operators (FBO) i.e Food Manufacturers, Traders, Restaurant / Hotel Owners, Kirana / fast food Shops, Pan Masala, Nutritional products, Importers/ Exporters etc.
It is a 14-digit unique license number , which has to be quoted on all food packages, Sign Boards, cash counters and Invoices. The License / Registration number is also required even if food products are not packaged or to be use further as raw material.

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India [FSSAI] is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which is a consolidating statue related to food safety and regulation in India. Having it’s Headquarter in New Delhi.

Kinds of FSSAI License / Registration?
There are Manly Three Kinds of Registration / Licenses in FSSAI

1. Basic Registration
Each and Every petty Food Business Operator (FBO ) can opt for the Basic Registration of FSSAI. Simply speaking FBO with a turnover of up to 12 lakh per annum can go for the Basic Registration. You should choose to register your business with the basic registration if you are a small-sized food product manufacturer, Food Vending Establishment, Restaurant owner, Cloud Kitchen business, Kirana /Fast food Shop, Tea Shop etc.
2. State License
Food Business operators having a turnover of 12 lakh rupees or more but up to 20 /30 Crore Rupees need to apply for the state level of FSSAI license. In addition to that, all-grain, cereal, and pulses milling units, no matter their turnover, should have the State FSSAI License.
3. Central License
Food Business operators having Premises in more than one state From which one is head office need to have the Central License for that head office. Apart from that, FBOs with an annual turnover of 20 /30 crores or more or doing E-commerce business or Exporting Food must also have the Central FSSAI License.
